IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and Oxford-Weidenfield Translation Prize

We have had a couple of award announcements this week, with the self proclaimed "world's richest literary prize" the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award announcing their winner in Dublin on Wednesday and the Oxford-Weidenfield Translation Prize giving out their gong last Saturday.

The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award was awarded after the judges worked their way through 142 nominated books, shortlisted ten and announced the fourth British winner in the twenty year history. "Harvest" by Jim Crace taking out the award. The press release stating "Harvest is a story that explores some of our greatest fears, those of change and difference". The novel was shortlisted for the 2013 Man Booker Prize (the last year before it became just another book award), losing out to Eleanor Catton's "The Luminaries".

The Oxford-Weidenfield Translation Prize was drawn from a shortlist of eight books with Susan Bernofsky taking the award for her translation of Jenny Erpenbeck's "The End of Days", the winner of the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize.
