The world’s most valuable annual literary prize, the IMPAC
Dublin Literary Award, yesterday announced their longlist. The books are
nominated by worldwide libraries and must simply be a single work of fiction
published in English. The 2015 list contains 49 novels in translation, 34.5% of
the list and the most the award has had in its twenty year history.
Novels that I have previously reviewed here include:
Horses of God by Mahi Binebine
We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo
The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante
Back to Back by Julia Franck
A Man in Love (My Struggle Book 2) by Karl Ove Knausgaard
Brief Loves that Live Forever by Andrei Makine
The Infatuations by Javier Marias
In The Night of Time by Antonio Munoz Molina
A Tale For The Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Devil’s Workshop by Jachym Topol
Congratulations to the large number of independent publishers
who have works on the list. The Judging Panel have until 15 April 2015 to get
through the 142 books when they announce their shortlist and then further
re-reading to come up with a winner on 17 June 2015.
